Who Is

Ron McCoy?

I've spent my life serving the people of Northeast Washington.

My story didn't begin in politics. It began stocking shelves at Safeway, building a career through hard work, serving my country in the United States Navy, and raising a family in the communities I now hope to represent in Olympia.

For decades, I've lived the same realities as many families across the 7th District: working, raising children, paying bills, supporting local businesses, and watching rural communities work to preserve their way of life while creating opportunities for future generations.

My Family

My wife Victoria and I have been married for nearly five decades. Together we adopted and raised six children, building a family rooted in service, responsibility, faith, and community. Family has always been at the center of my life and continues to shape my priorities today.

My Career

I spent much of my working life with Safeway, starting as a stockboy and eventually retiring after a long career with the company. That experience in the workforce taught me the value of hard work, personal responsibility, and treating people with respect regardless of their background or position.

Military Service

I proudly served in the United States Navy for more than 20 years. That service reinforced the values of discipline, accountability, leadership, and serving something larger than yourself. Principles that continue to guide my approach to leadership today.

My service also gave me a firsthand understanding of the challenges veterans face navigating healthcare and disability systems. That experience is personal to me, and it drives my commitment to fighting for better healthcare access for veterans and rural communities across the 7th District.

Community Leadership & Public Service

My commitment to public service spans decades, and I've been fortunate to serve at the local, regional, and state level.

Local Governance: I served as Mayor of Chewelah from 1998 to 2002 and served on the Chewelah City Council until January 2026.

State-Level Experience: I was appointed by Governor Gary Locke to serve on Washington State's Building Code Council, where I gained firsthand experience working with state agencies and navigating complex policy issues.

Regional Leadership: I also served on the Rural Resources Board of Directors and the Association of Washington Cities Board, working on issues involving infrastructure, housing, public safety, economic development, and the long-term success of rural communities.

Why I'm Running

The people of the 7th District deserve a leader who puts local communities ahead of partisan politics.

Across Northeast Washington, families are facing rising costs, housing shortages, workforce challenges, childcare shortages, aging infrastructure, and economic uncertainty. Too often, decisions affecting rural communities are made by people who have never lived the realities of rural life.

As an Independent, I answer only to the voters, not party bosses. I believe solutions work best when they are built with local communities, not imposed upon them.

My priorities are straightforward:

  • Support small businesses, local employers, agriculture, and forestry

  • Strengthen workforce training, apprenticeship pathways, and skilled trades

  • Improve access to housing and affordable childcare solutions

  • Invest in critical infrastructure, rural broadband, and public safety

  • Fight for better healthcare access in rural communities, especially for veterans and older residents

  • Advocate for veterans, seniors, and working families

  • Ensure the 7th District receives its fair share of attention and resources

My Leadership Approach

Leadership starts with listening.

My campaign is built on direct conversations, community involvement, accessibility, and practical problem-solving. I believe the greatest strength of the 7th District is not government. It's the people who live here, work here, raise families here, volunteer here, and care about the future of their communities.

The future of the 7th District depends on helping people build a future here, not forcing them to leave to find one.
